Today was a very special day! Julia came down to assist me at this unique and fun engagement session at Navy Pier in Chicago, IL! Chicago is one of my favorite cities in the country, and Laurel and Ryan are two good friends of mine who are getting married next year. Ellie and Chris - Wedding at the Botanical Gardens!

Today was Ellie and Chris' wedding! They were married at St. Matthews (best church lighting in the sanctuary, ever,) and had their portraits and reception at one of my favorite venues; the Boerner Botanical Gardens!

Chris' brother is in a band called The Abominable No Men, and they rocked the reception. We had amazing weather, amazing light, and amazing food. What a fabulous day!

Love this dress.

The ladies were playing Kings in the Corner. I thought I knew a lot of card games, but I had to ask what they were playing. Someone needs to teach me this one!

The guys were huddled around a video tutorial on folding pocket handkerchiefs! Love it!

They rented a classic Lincoln - this particular one was actually used in the original Mission Impossible!

They had SUCH gorgeous colors this weekend. Look at this fiery tree!

I climbed up in a tree for this shot. TOTALLY worth it!!!

...P.S.... There is a video of me in the tree doing those shots. I'll share it as soon as I get it! :) Super kudos thanks to the groomsmen for being at the ready with their iPhones! SO, in the meantime, here are some photos courtesy of Chris's brother Dan. :)

I'm completely in love with their place card idea. These are all little pumpkins and gourds grown by the Groom's mother! What a fabulous, DIY style touch.

Today was Salena and Gene's wedding! You might remember their engagement photos here. They had a lovely ceremony and reception at the Polish Center of Wisconsin. Gene's family is Korean, so they had a few elements mixed into the wedding! :) Just before dinner, Salena changed into a traditional Korean outfit. It was so bright and beautiful. We had gorgeous weather and got some amazing photos!

Katie and Mark's Wedding! {Milwaukee Wedding Photographer}

Today was Katie and Mark's wedding! You might remember their engagement session in Madison from last year. Well, I was super excited to see them again, and needless to say - they were looking as fabulous as ever! They started the day with a gorgeous ceremony at Villa Terrace. After some portraits, they stopped off at Balzac for a few drinks, and ended the night with a reception at the Milwaukee Public Museum.

Katie and Mark had a very sweet wedding and a great bike theme. They both are athletes and share a love for bicycles, so they incorporated bicycles into their wedding everywhere. What a beautiful day!

After the ceremony, the band started playing "I'm a Believer." It was so awesome! Katie and Mark almost didn't want to walk back down the aisle because they wanted to stay and listen. This is a shot of them peeking back out through the window and enjoying the music.

And this girl... I LOVE her hair. I couldn't stop staring, it's so pretty!

Meet Annette!

JBe Photography is proud to introduce Annette, the new intern!

We played around with some lights today - the shot on the left was done with a simple shoot-through umbrella outside in the parking lot at my studio. The one on the right was done with a ring flash in a hallway in my building. :)

Here's a little bit about Annette. I'm sure after reading this, you'll see why I'm so stoked to bring her on as part of the team, (aside from her amazing outlook, positive attitude and wicked fashion sense). She's going to be a great addition for the next three months.

1. Biggest passion: Storytelling through art, design...and storytelling.

2. Fav Food: Mac N' Cheese Pizza

3. Vice: Wine and/or Diet Coke (gotta have my daily aspartame).

4. Phrase: "Those who mind, don't matter; and those who matter, don't mind"...I think it's Dr. Suess

5. Something interesting: I won a national loon calling contest when I was 10... needless to say, not my idea to enter it.

6. A couple of my favorite bands at the moment: Dr. Dog, The Walkmen, Yeasayer, and an all time fav: Iggy & the Stooges.

Kristin and Dan's Wedding! {Milwaukee Wedding Photographer}

Today Dan and Kristin were married, and it was awesome! They met and were engaged on a golf course, so of course they had their reception at the Brynwood Wisconsin Country Club. They were married at St. Agnes in Butler, and we ran around the Third Ward for some great photos. This was a boisterous group, loud and fun, laughing and crying all day. I love my job!

I love this photo. Standard getting ready makeup... but with awesome yoga in the background.

Kristin had her Grandmothers rosary wrapped around her bouquet. The cool thing is that her Grandma had the same rosary on her own bouquet at her wedding!

Okay. We went to the Third Ward, and there is this great brick wall with these big holes in them. I said, "It'd be so awesome if you guys could climb up there, I wish it wasn't so high!" Then without missing a beat, Kristin said, "I can do it!" The group worked together to get her up there safely, and it was totally worth it!

The fun just kept coming! And it was the Pedal Tavern! They came up to us whooping and hollering, and then they let us do a photo on it. What a cool bunch!

As if I didn't already love this group... one of the Groomsmen started to plan a photo of the guys. Some of them started taking off various pieces of their outfits, and I realized he was setting up this idea from the Punch Brothers album. (One of my all-time favorite bands. The band I'll be seeing in two weeks in Denver.) I pointed to him and shouted, "Punch Brothers!" He looked at me, and was undoubtedly surprised I knew what it was referencing. He said, "YES! Exactly that!"

Stoked.

Kristin's Mom hand cut all of these golf tees to fit the seating cards in!

At this wedding, if you wanted the Bride and Groom to kiss, no clinking of the glasses was allowed. Instead, you had to come up and sink a putt!

One of the most delicious meals I've ever had a wedding!

Carmen's Boudoir Session! {Milwaukee Boudoir Photographer}

Whitney and Nathan's Wedding! {Milwaukee Wedding Photographer}

Today was Whitney and Nathan's wedding at the Harbor Lights Room. I've been waiting for this day since I first met Whitney last year. They've become very dear to me, and it felt like I was photographing a friend's wedding. What an emotional, love-filled and excellent day!

The day started out with the guys getting some delicious Starbucks!

Then I went over to the Hampton to get some shots with Whitney getting ready.

We met the Bridal Party up at the Discovery World Pier for some portraits next:

I found out where Nathan gets his sense of humor. His Dad was hilarious!

They used their engagement photos as table numbers!

Then, the most ridiculously awesome thing happened. Fireworks started outside!

Jessica and Adam: Engagement Session!

Today I met up with Jessica and Adam to shoot their engagement session! We went down to South Shore Park to do the photos, and they brought Murray, their dog! It was a blast to get to know these guys, and even though Adam says he doesn't have a natural photo smile... I love these images. It's nothing for me to do a goofy dance or act the fool - and they've both got a great laugh. I can't wait for their wedding day in February!

Murray was not very interested in looking at the camera or having his photo taken. He just wanted to eat grass. No sweat... I will lay down on the ground and get the shot, baby!

Erm... coolest client contest: WINNERS! Anyone who does a Karate Kid pose deserves a gold star.

The shot on the left was directly after Murray wrapped his leash around my feet by wandering around me while I was shooting, and I told them it might topple me over to the ground. Yeah, the thought of me biffing it is pretty funny. :)

JBe Photography is looking for an Intern!

JBe Photography studio is looking for an intern! I will consider anyone who is hard working, eager to learn and has a sense of creativity. If you're outgoing, unique, a little goofy, a little nerdy... send in your application. I'm setting up interviews for next week, so this opportunity won't last long. I've already had a great deal of interest.

Requirements include:

1. Experience with Photoshop (color correction, basic editing) and graphic design.

2. Reliable transportation, punctuality and reliability.

3. Ability to work up to 10 hours carrying equipment (heavy and/or light loads depending on the assignment)

4. A positive attitude.

This position is for a a non-shooting assistant at weddings, on location photo shoots, as well as helping at the studio with various tasks. The contract will be a commitment of 90 hours, (10 hours average per week,) with potential for extension or revision after that.

Heather and Jordan's wedding! {Milwaukee Wedding Photographer}

Today was Heather and Jordan's wedding at Villa Terrace! They celebrated with a modernized Jewish ceremony, and we got some gorgeous photos. I love these because the location was so perfect for them - they're both librarians! The reception was at the Charles Allis Museum, catering by the amazing Shully's!

As Heather's parents read their piece of the ceremony, her Mom started to tear up. Of course, I started to choke up too. Darnit! I love emotional weddings, but I'm a sucker. :)

After the ceremony they stepped into a private room for a moment. I peeked in, and they were to my left. But in front of me... was this. /sigh.

They had such fun personal touches at the reception. They did a card catalog with old cards, and in the front were the seating assignments!

Their card box was designed as a giant scrabble board!

And, their guest book was an old typewriter. They had guests type personal messages on paper. So cool!

Swathi and Adam's Ceremony!

This morning was Swathi and Adam's Ceremony. Part 1 of the day was absolutely amazing! I feel so blessed to have been a part of such a moving and special morning. The love and sense of tradition was overwhelming. Here are 37 photos... it was ridiculously difficult to keep it at this!

Now, I'm off to do some portraits with them, and photograph the reception and festivities!

It started with Adam's Upanayanam ceremony:

Then, he re-emerged after changing and rode in on a horse!

Once Adam was in place inside, Swathi was brought in around the outside, up to the Mandapam.

They remained separated by a sheet of cloth until they had completed a few ceremonial traditions. When the cloth was lifted, they were officially wed!

Swathi's parents washed Adam's feet.

This was just after the cloth was lifted. I was teary eyed! The family is blessing them with rice.

The tying of the sacred necklace (Maangalya) evoked applause from the guests.

My favorite part! The pouring of rice!

We did a private ring exchange, and I jokingly asked Adam if he had some vows to recite. He said, "Of course I do!" He pulled out a piece of paper and Swathi was completely shocked. Afterward, you'd better bet I didn't even have to ask them to kiss. :)

The tent where the guests and family had their luncheon. Swathi and Adam had their own private lunch before going to change and prepare for the reception tonight!

Swathi and Adam's Pre-Wedding Ceremony! {Milwaukee Indian Wedding Photographer}

Tonight was the pre-wedding ceremony at Swathi's Parent's home. What gracious hosts, and what a gorgeous house! The ceremony was amazing - officially "engaging" Swathi and Adam. Tomorrow, the wedding ceremony begins at 9am at the Pilot House, Discovery World. What a beautiful day it will be!

Amanda and Dave's Wedding! {Milwaukee Wedding Photographer}

Today was a very sweet and simple wedding with Amanda and Dave. They were married at the lake front beach at Doctor's Park, and rode off on their Harley to one of my favorite venues, the Lake Park Bistro! Here are a few of my favorites from the day!

They had each guest pick a stone from the beach for their stone/sand ritual at the ceremony. Two weddings back to back with really unique things going on at their ceremonies! This one, each stone represented the love and support from each person. In the same bowl they poured sand to represent the members of the family who were no longer with them.

A simple beach ceremony with acoustic guitar. Love it.

A few of the guests couldn't make it down the steep stairs to the beach, but they had great seats up above us!

I'm more obsessed with the kiss after "the kiss."

Dave's son was so emotional - it was obvious he was really excited and happy!

Dave and Amanda had their first kiss on this pier!

And, they rode away on Dave's Harley! They decked it out, and it was rad.

I like the moments between the family formals more than the formals themselves. :)

NO clue what I did or said to evoke this reaction, but I love it! I'll do just about anything I can to make them smile.

Their cakes were simple and elegant - and it was totally vintage with their color combinations and the photo in the center!

Mary and Kevin's Wedding! {Country Springs Hotel Wedding}

Mary and Kevin were married today at the Country Springs Hotel! You might remember Mary and Kevin from their fun engagement session at the Lakefront Brewery. Since then, I've been really excited for their big day. They're just like me: Goofy, emotional, nerdy and laid back. It was like photographing a friend's wedding, and there's truly nothing better than that. Here are a bunch of my favorites!

Mary and Kevin had a Wine Box ritual during their ceremony. They nailed it shut, containing two glasses, a bottle of wine and letters they wrote to each other. If they ever encounter a very hard time in their relationship, they are supposed to open it, have the wine and then go into separate rooms and read the letters they wrote to each other. If not, they will open it on their 10 year anniversary!

Right before this huge smile, Mary said to Kevin, "We're married!" /sigh. I want to cry just remembering it.

Randi and Brandon's Wedding!

Randi and Brandon were married today at Trinity Community Church. They had their reception at the Hilton Garden Inn, and it was a fabulous day! They win the prize for my favorite flowers so far this season, by none other than Amanda over at The Flower Source. Plus, the church had so many bright, fun painted walls... it was an eye-popping day to say the least! Here are a bunch of my favorites! :)

Meghan and David's Wedding! {Oconomowoc Wedding Photographer}

Saturday was Meghan and David's wedding. They were married at the beautiful Zion Episcopal Church in Oconomowoc, WI. The church has a gorgeous peninsula behind it that goes out into the lake, and they were married outside there. What a beautiful location!

I can't explain how happy, joyful and emotional this wedding was. Meghan had a huge smile on her face the entire day, and the sheer size of their wedding party should demonstrate how much love was in the air! Since I can't describe it in words, I'll let the photos do the talking. :)

Aly and Chris's Wedding! {Milwaukee Wedding Photographer}

Yesterday, Aly and Chris had a wedding at the Botanical Gardens. These two have been one of my favorite couples from the beginning, and since I saw Aly and her close friend (and also Bride!) so recently at my opening for the mini sessions, I couldn't wait for the wedding. It was classic, sort of vintage, they did a traditional first dance and then a first swing dance, too! Overall a fabulous night capped off with a friends-only retreat to Cafe Hollander for a very "Milwaukee" end to the evening.

Simon and Kelly: A Wedding at the Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake!

Simon and Kelly have been two of my favorite clients since I met them. I have been so excited for their wedding, and the day was just beautiful! The weather was perfect, and we had a full hour for portraits, so I was completely stoked. :)

Also, I got to work with my favorite DJ ever, Alan from Accent Events. After I went outside with Kelly and Simon for some sunset photos, we came back to find that the power had gone out in the entire resort! Everyone took advantage of the tons of tea-light candles and the bar. A good time was still had by all, and... who needs power when you have cake? :)

Kelly tied her Dad's tie into a Windsor knot for the ceremony. Such a sweet moment!

Simon's family is from Britain, and both of the Mothers looked ultra fashionable in their hats! Simon's mother told me that hers is called a "Fascinator." I've never heard that before, but I need to go buy one.

This is my favorite walking down the aisle photo, ever. Simon is starting to say "Wow." here. LOVE it.

Such a romantic and sexy first married kiss!

I love this family formal. I had to do a silly dance, but I even got Simon's Dad to laugh!

We got special permission to shoot on the private property adjacent to the hotel. I'm telling you... there's no better "pass" than a woman in a wedding dress. :)

Today Leigh and Ersin had a totally classy, retro funky wedding. The ceremony was in their backyard, and just to try to explain to you how cool it was... they had an 8-piece brass band (Mama Dig Down) playing "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5. I knew it was going to be a great day after that! They had vintage touches everywhere, from gorgeous flowers from The Flower Lady to the incredible dress Leigh was wearing, and they ended the day with Bruch and a reception at one of my favorite Milwaukee venues for a smaller wedding: The Lake Park Bistro.

They took a horse-drawn carriage to the Lake Park Bistro after the ceremony. What a nice relaxing time for the Bride and Groom, and how gorgeous! People in the neighborhood were so intrigued by the carriage, they all came out to watch. They broke into applause when Leigh and Ersin came out of the house. I love how Brides and Grooms get to be like celebrities for a day!





I was very excited that the South bridge at Lake Park Bistro wasn't still under construction. I've been dying to shoot at the light house, and we got to today!

The bridal party colors included this fantastic Tiffany Blue. So pretty!

LOVE all their details! The flowers were just gorgeous. Also, they had these great books on the tables that all the guests could fill out. They had things like, "What is the best romantic place we should visit?" and, "What is the best marriage advice you've heard?" Totally clever.

I love that everyone STOOD to toast the Bride and Groom. Made such a great photo.

Ben and Danika: A Milwaukee Art Museum Wedding!

Today was Ben and Danika's wedding. What a gorgeous, love-filled day! I fell in love with these two the moment I met them, and I've been looking forward to this wedding. The day did not disappoint! Here are several of my favorites from the day. :)

Ben and Danika's mother grew the flowers; they made the clay vases with Danika, and Ben's mom did the arranging of the flowers. SO cool!

Today was really cool. I went to the Lakefront Brewery with Kevin and Mary to do their engagement session! The Brewery was awesome and let us go in before the tours began. We did some shots inside and outside by the river and the train tracks. These two are a ton of fun, and I can't WAIT for their wedding coming up in August!

Brianna and Joey's Wedding! {Elm Grove Wedding Photographer!}

Today I photographed Brianna and Joey's wedding at the Groom's Parent's home in Elm Grove, WI. What a gorgeous day! Brianna had a huge smile on her face the entire day. When I mentioned it to her, she said, "Well we can attribute that to the man next to me." This couple is so in love, it's crazy fantastic!

Studio Progress!

Hey guys!

So, we've been working crazy hard on the studio to get it ready for the opening! We still have a lot of work to do but I wanted to update you all on how things are looking!

Julia's favorite wall. This applique is awesome and I chose it because it couldn't be truer, especially when it comes to your wedding photos. That is why it's SO important to choose a photographer who can capture moments for you. :)

The front room - I think it's just about done! Just need to set up the coffee bar on the left side of the door and get a plant in the back left corner to the right of the door. :)
Finally, a place to display my little collection of vintage cameras!

So, now you can see where the other work is we have left to do! We need to move this stuff out and mop/prep/paint the floors here. Then, we begin transforming it into a boudoir room! I'm not telling you what we're going to do... you'll just have to wait and see! :)

Summerfest: Spoiled Rotten and Justin Bieber!

Today I had a kick-ass time at Summerfest! I photographed the Spoiled Rotten Band, and got to hang out backstage with them. Such a fun thing to be backstage at a music festival, especially one as huge as Summerfest! Tour busses lined up one next to the other, huge staff, crazy grounds... and famous folks too. Justin Bieber popped his adorable tiny young head into our tent and came in for a few seconds while we were waiting around with the guys from Rhythm Method. Here are a few shots:

Laura and Heather's Wedding! {Milwaukee LGBT Photographer}

Today was the elegant wedding of Laura and Heather. They had white tents and gorgeous decor at their home, and it was beautiful! They are Buddhist, and the ceremony included sacred silence and chanting. What a wonderful, emotional, love-filled day. I'm thrilled to have been there, and so happy to have been a part of their big day!

Today I shot Annie and John's lovely wedding in Milwaukee! The day started with gorgeous blue skies, but we heard thunder in the church, and it started to rain like crazy. Luckily the wedding party was up for a challenge, and I pulled out my pack of umbrellas for our trip to Marquette's Joan of Arc chapel for photos. The rain went away and the sun came back out just in time for a few rooftop sunset shots. Annie was a seriously stylish bride and the family and friends never left the dance floor. What a blast!

Today Dani and I partnered up with Mikelle Flanner of E-Collectique Runway Boutique for a fashion shoot. Mikelle brought all kinds of great high-end vintage clothing, jewelry and shoes (Hello Louis Vuitton and Chanel!) and Dani was a trooper, getting on high ledges when she isn't too wild about heights. What a fun day.

It was my first shoot in the new studio even though the studio isn't finished yet... we got to shoot in front of a few of the newly painted walls. Also, we went outside in the neighborhood around the studio and shot on location. I can't explain how many FABULOUS places there are to shoot!

Hello lovely readers!

I wanted to share with you all some really exciting news. JBe Photography has forged ahead with a new studio space in the Fifth Ward! We're currently doing a ton of prep work - lots of cleaning and mopping before we can even start to re-paint the space. But! I want to keep you all posted with the progress of the space.

I'll be having an official Studio Opening when we get everything finished and ready to go. It could be any time between June and October depending on how busy things get, but have no fear... it will definitely come before the end of the year. :)

Keep your eyes on the blog for updates and other fun announcements. I can't wait to share the new space with everyone! And don't worry... studio shoots are still being scheduled throughout the whole process. :)

What was your favorite wedding photo? Jen took a fabulous shot of us down at the lake, a wide-angle, with us in the right hand side of the frame and the lake stretching out in the background. the sun was setting, and she picked up the colour changes, the reflections... Its just a great shot. I like it so much I made it my desktop.

How did the wedding photographer avoid disrupting the day? Great with candids? Action shots? Portraits? Our event was pretty small, and we'd made it clear to all the vendors present that they were more than welcome to mingle, introduce themselves, and generally be a part of the day in the same way that the guests were. Being the groom, I was kind of rushed off my feet going here and there for various things, but its a really nice feeling to have your guests come and tell you they met your photographer and she's a wonderful woman. She's got a very light, breezy and overwhelmingly positive demeanor that made her a joy to work with; practically every shot she has of relatives and friends its clear they are having a good time and enjoyed working with her!
What was included in your wedding photo package? Albums? DVDs? Engagement pics? Two photographers? As we were doing a small event and trying to cut costs as much as possible, we sounded out a number of photographers and were surprised at the contrast between their pricing and hers. It was pretty clear what we'd be paying for, and what we'd expect to receive, a large contrast from the other photographers we'd contacted who were less than clear about things. Jen didn't attempt to nickel-and-dime us in any way and her no-frills package included all the shots she took on a DVD, as well as hosting online so our relatives and friends could order prints themselves (which is pretty handy, as I had relatives coming in from overseas).
How did the photographer make you and family comfortable? Wow, how didn't she? Myself and my wife met her a couple of times before the event to hash out details and cross all our T's and whatnot, quick, painless, and very casual meetings in which Jennifer's enthusiasm for for her job was well evident, both in the quality and professionalism of work she produced and the relaxed positivity that she radiated from our first meeting all the way through to the close of our special day. Jennifer accompanied us to the venue prior to our big day, and we scouted out potential locations and good places to stage shots, we even invited her along to our meal tastings; she just a great person to have around! In the end though, it wasn't really anything she did or didn't do to make us feel comfortable. She's a happy, positive person with a clear love for her job, and the quality of her work speaks for itself. by the time our wedding actually came, it felt less like we were hiring someone and more like a friend of ours was taking care of that for us. Book her now!

We Love Jenn!

What was your favorite wedding photo? That's a tough question! If forced to pick absolutely just ONE photo, I would say that it's one of the photos during our first dance. My wife was looking over my shoulder as my cheek rested on hers. She was looking into the camera, but only her eyes were peeking from my shoulder. The happiness she had that day was all in her eyes, and even without seeing the rest of her face, you just know she's smiling a very genuine and happy smile. A perfect capture that only a truly seasoned photographer can make! And as if that wasn't enough, Jenn made masterful use of a remote flash to produce a VERY, VERY dramatic lens flare. I'm a serious photography enthusiast, and I absolutely LOVE her work. My father, who used to be a professional photographer who back in the day and had photography exhibitions in some of the most prestigious art galleries in my home country, was likewise very impressed with her work. That says a lot! We could not have chosen a better photographer to capture the memories of our wedding day.

How did the wedding photographer avoid disrupting the day? Great with candids? Action shots? Portraits? Jenn is very skilled at not disrupting anything. She blends in very well. At times we even forget we have a photographer busy taking pictures! She also has a great eye and trigger finger for "the moment" (and there were A LOT of those that night). She's right in the midst of all the action. She caught our relatives wiping the tears from their eyes during the ceremony, our guest twirling her scarf around as she danced (and everybody laughing with her) during the reception, and the fleeting expression of happy surprise on my mother's face when I danced with her, which she kept for less than a second. This, in my humble opinion, exemplifies how truly seasoned a photographer Jenn is. The portraits Jenn produced were also far beyond what we expected (and we had very high expectations, knowing how good she is after seeing her portfolio). Really, you can't go wrong with picking Jenn as the photographer for one of the most important days you'll have in your life.

What was included in your wedding photo package? We got full coverage of both the ceremony and reception. We also got a disc of high-resolution images, online proofs, and even the ability to send out the online proofs to our guests so that they too can choose and print any image they'd want to have a copy of for themselves. Oh, and not only that, she saved us from a lot of work that we would have had to do had she not saved us from making a mistake at a crucial moment. When we were signing our marriage certificate, she told my bride that she sh/could sign with her new name. We both never even considered that! It would have been a LOT of work to have to correct a mistake like that. And during the cake cutting, seeing as how my wife and I were lost as to how to execute it, she quietly told us that the best way to go about it would be for my wife to support the slice of cake using the spatula, and for me to use the long knife to "sandwich" it from the top. Cake disaster avoided. :D I guess what I'm trying to say it, not only do you get a person to take photos with Jenn, you also get all the experience she's had from all the weddings she's done, and she'll very unobstrusively step in at the right time with practical advice if she sees an opportunity to make your wedding day even better. ;)

How did the photographer make you and family comfortable? Jenn is a natural at making people comfortable. She just has that magic touch. There's no other way to say it. My wife and I are very reserved people, I'm not photogenic at all, and I dislike smiling for a camera, but she just made us so at ease that I didn't even notice her working her magic. I was really surprised to see that I can actually look good in a photo! Also, she would just make us laugh with a joke, comment or observation, and *click*, a picture was taken with the most sincere and beautiful smile you'd be able to make. At times, I even thought she was just making adjustments on her camera. Unbeknownst to us, she was capturing the best candids we've ever had taken of us. All in all, it's a combination of Jenn's natural affability, tremendous talent and considerable experience that made all the difference. We could not have asked for more from our wedding, and picking Jenn as our photographer had a lot to do with it. Even today, weeks after the wedding, my wife and I look at the wonderful photos that Jenn took and can't help but smile as the memories of that happy day come back to us. :)

Seriously. The pictures were so candid and so unique - it make them so special! I'm pretty sure every wall in my house will have one of the pictures because I cannot get enough of how amazing they are. My husband is not photogenic at all and I have the most amazing photos of him, I can't thank her enough for this.

Jenn is fantastic with candids! She did a phenomenal job going around and capturing the day. Even for 'posed' pictures she didn't instruct us on what to do, she wanted for the best moment and captured when my husband and i were really enjoying the moment. There are also some SWEET dancing pictures! Jenn took care of it, she knew what to do and didnt' have to ask or bug me about anything. If I didn't like being around her so much, I would have forgot she was even there!

We got the sweet and simple and added a few hours of coverage. We have an album, 8 hours of coverage, one photography (why get two when one does such a good job?). She had a TON of different options of packages and was super flexible about creating your own.

One month later and people are still talking about how laid back and cool Jenn is - that says a lot. Unlike other weddings I've been in, Jenn didn't boss us around - she went with the flow and let people be them selves. I cannot stand photographers who orchestrate every moment of the picture -- hand here, step forward -- how is that natural? What Jenn does is a true gift.

We are JBe Converts.

When we first began planning our wedding, we weren't sure that we wanted to spend money on hiring a photographer. Looking back on our experiences with Jennifer and the results she gave us, we are so happy that we didn't just ask a friend or relative to take some pictures of the day. The pictures Jennifer took beautifully captured the spirit of our wedding, and we will treasure them for the rest of our lives.

There were so many pictures that we just loved - it's really hard to pick one.

We were lucky to meet with Jennifer again the morning after our wedding to do a photo shoot on a beach. She snapped one of our favorites while we thought she was simply adjusting her lighting - we didn't know she was taking pictures, so the photo is really natural and highlights a special part of our relationship. We didn't know we looked at each other like that! One of Jennifer's great gifts lies in her ability to capture fleeting yet significant moments, giving us the chance to see through her perceptive eyes.

Jennifer handled a wide range of photos with discretion and expertise. Her presence was never intrusive. She took beautiful, tasteful pictures of me getting dressed and then switched gears at the end of the ceremony to direct portraits of up to 30 people (including children) at once. Her professionalism in both situations, as well as in all the situations in between, really set everyone at ease and yielded wonderful results. Jennifer can get the perfect shot quickly, which allowed us to get through all of the formal portraits we had requested (and more) without feeling rushed. Jennifer also designed a book including highlights from both shoots (primarily the wedding).

We are really glad that she was the only photographer included in our photo package, as we loved her work and wouldn't have wanted to trust our day to a different photographer. We've had so many comments from family and friends about how much they appreciated Jennifer's easy-going yet professional style. My mom said we couldn't have asked for a better experience with a photographer. Jennifer's work with candid photos is exceptional - her relaxed manner encourages everyone to be at ease and have fun. She does a great job of blending into the background without missing a moment. Jennifer is also really easy to talk to, very friendly and not at all intimidating. Though much of her work is to beautifully document the events of the day as they unfold, she also has creative ideas for posed portraits while encouraging her subjects to be themselves. It's obvious that she loves what she does, and her enthusiasm for her work is infectious, amplifying the joy and excitement of the day.

Honestly, we can't choose a single favorite from the images we have received. Jennifer managed to capture the essence and spirit of the entire wedding and every photo is a memory of the amazing celebration. Each image brings to life a moment, a memory, of that special night. We refuse to keep these amazing images in a stuffy photo album and plan to openly showcase the photos so that we can remember our wedding forever!

Jennifer is amazing (understatement!) The way she works is seamless - she is so professional and friendly. She was treated as an honored guest and friend at our wedding. As a fellow photographer I was nervous entrusting my photos to just anyone - I literally couldn't be happier with my images. From candids, to action shots, to portraits, the proof is in my images - Jennifer is a talented and creative photographer!

Because we were having a small, intimate wedding of under 30 guests as well as being on a tight/small budget, we honestly didn't think we were going to be able to afford a photographer. . . then we found Jennifer. She listened to our wants and needs and helped us come up with a solution to fit our budget. In the end we decided to book Jennifer for a 5 hour time slot and receive our images on CD with full print capabilities. With that said, my new husband and I have decided to book Jennifer to photograph us for some other occasions in the near future!

Nadine and Rob's Wedding Day Review:

The picture that is currently on Jen's website above the "wedding's" button is our favorite image. It is Rob and I overlooking the river. Rob is being sooo sweet and Jen did a great job of capturing our moment plus the beautiful Milwaukee background.

Jenn was a huge part of our day and that is why we lover her. She took AMAZING shots candids, action, portraits you name it and we loved every second of the day/her! She has a great personality and everyone loved her!

Wonderful Experience! Highly Recommended!

There were so many pictures that Jennifer took that I loved, however, one of my favorites is one she took of my husband and I in a big open field, the wind was blowing my veil and the fall colors were gorgeous! Captured the moment perfectly. Jennifer was very time-conscious! Even though pictures started later than scheduled, we were still back for the reception early! She took many priceless candid shots, and the portraits were stunning.

Jennifer was the only photographer, but she did such an awesome job, she would not have needed any help with the beautiful pictures that she was able to take. She was very organized and has a great eye for those perfect shots. Jennifer was very outgoing and made taking pictures fun and exciting! Our whole wedding party enjoyed her and had a great time with pictures! Family was comfortable and really liked her as well.

She Was The Best!

I think that some of our favorite pictures are the ones she captured when we had no idea she was even there!

We loved looking back through them and finding the amazing shots we weren't expecting! She was AMAZING!! We also got an amazing coffee table book that everyone is in awe of and an awesome 16x20 wall print. She got along well with everyone...had a sense of humor but remained completely professional the entire day!

One of Jennifer's Brides!

My husband and I have so many favorites from the proofs that we received from Jennifer last night. I don't think that we could narrow it down. All of them are our favorites! :) Jennifer was AMAZING all day. I was talking to my husband as we were browsing our photos, and my most common comment was that I had no idea that there was a photographer there for most of the shots. Not to mention, before the ceremony, I was having an issue with my acid reflux and Jennifer took the time to ask the kitchen for some milk for me! Definitely not in her job description, but she helped anyway!

Jennifer did a great job with making sure everyone was comfortable. My entire family is very goofy, and Jennifer fit in well. She was willing to work with us to do the shots that we wanted, and snapped pictures whenever people were having fun! :)

Unbelievable... Absolutely fantastic!

I'm trying to think if I have a favorite photo...there are so many to choose from! I love them all for different reasons! She captured every detail of our awesome day. Our wedding album is absolutely gorgeous, she did a wonderful job of putting it together. We couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. She also made a guest book of our engagement pictures for people to sign at the reception. We received so many compliments on it; many people said they couldn't wait to see our wedding pictures because our engagement pictures were so awesome! It was a great idea!

Jennifer captured all the important moments of the day, many of them without us even knowing. She definitely has an artistic eye and made us feel at ease the whole day. She is extremely talented taking all kinds of pictures - candids, action shots, and portraits. Once the dancing started, Jen opened up the "crazy booth"! She brought some fun props from home, a couple studio lights and started snapping away as groups of people lined up to get their goofy, fun pictures taken! It was a huge hit, people loved it and are still talking about it.

Jennifer has lots of packages to choose from. She sat down with me and listened to what I was looking for in a photographer. We decided to have her all day! This included a 2 hour engagement session, unlimited time and stops on our wedding day, 3 beautiful coffee table books (one for us and each of our families - which turned out amazing!) a disc with all the pictures and printing release, a proof book of all the images, including B &W, 300 thank you photo cards/envelopes, and a 1 hour portrait session 1 year from now! We couldn't have asked for anything else!

We got to know Jennifer during our engagement session. Nic had not had a chance to meet her until then and was shocked at how easy and comfortable she made us feel. The day of the wedding I received numerous compliments from the groomsmen as to how painless the pictures were! Our families loved her and are so happy with all our pictures. She sat with friends at dinner and they all had great things to say about her. Jennifer is so easy going, but yet professional. She did a fantastic job, and we are so happy to have found her!

Amazing....just amazing.

There were so many awesome images from the day - that choosing one is a little hard. If I had to narrow it down it would be the one of Aaron and I kissing under my veil or us standing in front of the brick wall.

Her eye for detail and catching those split-second moments created some of the best pictures we have. She captured subtle, sweet moments between Aaron and I - but also caught us being our goofy selves. Our portrait shots and those of our wedding party were beautiful. The day was amazing and Jennifer was able to catalog it on film for us, so we'll always be able to look back and enjoy.

Amazing is a word I often use to describe Jennifer Brindley. From the moment I met with her, I knew she was supposed to photograph my wedding - and she didn't disappoint. On the big day, Jennifer arrived early and was ready and excited to start shooting. Her enthusiasm put my camera-shyness at ease and her sense of humor was a perfect fit for our group. She got along exceptionally well with the entire wedding party and just as well with all of the guests. I would absolutely recommend Jennifer to anyone looking for a photographer.

Fabulous Photographer

There were so many favorite photos to choose from... the candids of the ceremony were fabulous but my favorite would probably be the one taken on a wooden bridge with the sun peeking through the trees.

Jennifer made sure we had a plan before the actual day so things went smoothly. She had a list of photos needed and we met at the location to scope out spots a week before the wedding. Her candids and portraits turned out great and we had such a variety. They weren't the same old wedding photos by any means. We get a CD of all our pictures, a book of photos compiled from our day and and 8x10 of our choosing. Jennifer assured us that another photographer would cover our day if an emergency arose. Jennifer is so friendly and well organized that everyone took to her right away. She worked with the younger children well and talked with everyone she photographed. She even made friends with our officiant!

You'll fall in love with her photographs!

I think my favorite photo was when she caught my reflection in the mirror as I was walking down the aisle with my dad. That or the one of the flower girl sitting pensively in the chair where we removed the garter. I loved the ones with my groom before the wedding, too. It's really hard to pick one. She was very subtle and unobtrusive. I think she has a true talent at candids, action shots and portraits: a photojournalist of the highest stature. She captures moments that are so subtle that most people watching probably missed them. She makes it all look beautiful, too.

I got a DVD of the pictures and an album. It was surprisingly reasonable. My father said that the price would have been worth it even if we only got the 20 pictures she sent the night of the wedding. She was amazing. She was very patient with us, even when I got tired and fussy at the end. She was playful and sweet to all. I've been at weddings where the photographer kind of ordered people around. That is not her style. I was surprised at how she basically worked with whatever we did, and made it wonderful. I'm still not sure how she did it!

We had so many favorite pictures!

We were married at a public park behind a hill that she made look like a green mountain. She ran around to catch the view from amazing angles during our 10 minute ceremony. Reception photos were done in the moment and in poses. We love all of them!

I loved that she didn't bug people during dinner. Instead she took pictures of our rings in creative ways and focused on details around the dinner. The package we decided on included a book. She did an amazing job putting each and every person from the wedding in that book. It will be in our family forever! ...You know when you meet her this is what she wants to be doing and that makes everyone feel equally excited! We had talked about the family order and how we would add members as we took pictures. She took many pictures in a short amount of time. And they were beautiful!

I would recommend Jennifer to anyone.

I think my favorite is of me and my husband sitting outside, on a park bench in front of a beautiful golden fall tree. We're kissing and laughing and just paying attention to each other.

Jennifer struck a great balance between being personable and discreet. She did a good job directing us in the posed photos and keeping our attention on her. She has a great personality and is very exciting and fun to work with so it was easy to focus on her and her direction. However, she was also unobtrusive when she needed to be. For example, I have no recollection of her taking photographs at all during the ceremony. She wasn't distracting at all when I focused on the ceremony or when I was having a little moment with my husband.

I found her prices to be extremely reasonable, and a great value. Her style and the quality of the pics were similar to photographers we looked at who easily cost double.

Jennifer just has an awesome, outgoing, great personality. I am not a huge fan of being photographed so I really wanted to make sure I liked my photographer and felt comfortable. She made me feel gorgeous and I had a lot fun during the shoots, which I wasn't expecting! She was very comfortable interacting with family members and wasn't at all shy about getting everyone where they needed to be and when, yet she was always friendly, never pushy or overbearing. She has a great sense of humor and I kind of felt like a good friend was taking the pictures. The experience was totally enjoyable - and as a bonus, I have wonderful pictures of a great day. I even got a little teary when I first looked at them.

Jennifer is amazingly creative with a genius artistic eye!

Jennifer found a way to blend in with the guests and the wedding setting. Her equipment was not super bulky. She didn't get in anyone's way. The posed shots and the action shots were both incredible. She captured some amazing expressions that displayed people's emotions in the action shots. She also was able to capture people's best features in the posed photos.

We had our engagement session and photos done through Jennifer. They were phenomenal. She included our save the date cards, the engagement photo session, the 6 hours wedding photo session. Also, she included an 8 x 10 matted signature photo for wedding guests to sign at the reception. And a coffee table album. - Great value!

She was friendly, upbeat and gave good directives without being pushy. It really seemed like she was enjoying herself. Her attitude was well received by our guests. During the evening, people commented to my husband and I about how talented and professional Jennifer was.

Jennifer recently shot our wedding and we could not have asked for anything better! She was professional, outgoing, enthusiastic, and took all the shots we wanted...and more! Our photos are amazing and you can tell she spent considerable time retouching them to ensure they are perfect. JBe Photography - So, What's the Deal?

I've put together a very comprehensive set of frequently asked questions here to help you with your decision! Please feel free to e-mail me at inquiry@jenniferbrindleyphotography.com if you have any further questions.

Q. What do you shoot?

A. I shoot Digital with a professional Nikon D3s full frame camera and one Nikon D700 backup camera. I have a slew of prime and high quality lenses. In college, I was in the darkroom for hours on end, developing and printing my film. Though Digital is the medium I use the majority of the time, I have recently returned to film as a supplement to my digital arsenal, and I just might bring some heavy, awesome medium format gear to your wedding.

Q. What if your camera breaks during my wedding?

A. Though I might cry if this happens, the truth is... this is why I have two things: insurance and backups.

Q. What will you wear?

A. I always wear black pants and a black shirt, sometimes with a black or grey vest. I will always do my best to project a professional appearance and image that works well with any wedding atmosphere. Though I can't deny... at your reception if the DJ puts on "Play that funky music, white boy,"... I'll be dancing with you guys while I take photos. I just can't help it.

Q. What if the weather turns icky?

A. Wellll, sometimes that happens. Unfortunately, when it comes to Mother Nature, there are no guarantees, and unfortunately, no re-shoots if weather turns wet, snowy, dark, angry or ugly. I will always do my best to give you the best possible images, but often it depends on how bad the weather actually gets, and how scared you are of getting your dress wet. I do come armed with 14 black umbrellas and a pair of galoshes in case things get rainy.

Q. Do I have to feed you?

A. If I'm shooting longer than 5 hours with you, I will need to eat at some point to stay fueled and energized. (If I bring an assistant or second shooter to the wedding, this applies to them as well.)

Q. Can my relatives take photos at the wedding too?

A. For the most part, I have no problem with that. It will usually turn out just fine as long as everyone there realizes that I've been hired to do a job, and as long as I can do that job, it's all good. Typically if you ask your friends and family to wait until I'm done with the photos to take their snapshots, that is best.

Q. What about the Videographer?

A. If you have decided to use a videographer, I will ask to meet with them. There are some shots I cannot compromise on (ie: the kiss, cutting of the cake, and other big moments that only happen one time.) The photos should take a priority to the video. It's ultimately up to you, but if you give the Videographer priority over me, you might not like the photos you get.

Q. What kind of style do you have?

A. I use a combo shooting style, mixing a primarily candid photo approach (occasionally referred to as a photojournalistic style) and prefer to breeze quickly through the more traditional posed formal photos (I do understand that most folks still need them.) Really, I don't get too caught up in the name of the style. I just call it "Jenn-style." You'll get a good idea what that is when you see the photos on my website and in the books I'll show you.

Q. How soon will we see our photos?

A. Usually, you can expect to see your initial images online within 3 weeks following the wedding.

Q. Can you put a courtesy hold on our date?

A. No. Unfortunately, the deposit is required to take a date off of the market. This way, I won't miss out on business I could have had if you change your mind. I'm sure you understand. :)

Q. Are you the only photographer in this company? If I hire you, am I guaranteed that you will be the one showing up to shoot my wedding?

A. Yes, I am the only photographer. It's Jennifer Brindley (JBe) Photography - and I believe if you're hiring me, you should get me. I do not have, nor do I ever plan to have associate photographers. I believe that is a huge disadvantage to large photography companies; you never know who you're gonna get.

Q. Can you show me 3 or more complete weddings you've done?

A. Absolutely. I feature a full wedding on my website, and I'm also happy to e-mail you the links to a few full weddings on my proofing site if you'd like. Also, when we meet for a consultation, I will have several wedding books so you can see the whole picture. I have full confidence in the product from beginning to end!

Q. Is color and B/W photography included or is there an extra fee for B/W?

A. I include both. I actually do a professional black and white conversion for every single image I take at your wedding, and I don't know of any other professional photographers that offer that. It's my belief that some images look beautiful in color, and some look better in black and white. When you see your proofs and get your disc of images, you'll get both copies of photos.

Q. Do you offer hand coloring for B/Ws, digital coloring for B/Ws or digital color separation?

A. My style is modern and progressive, photo journalistic and artistic. As such, I do not offer selective coloring or sepia editing. If that's something you're looking for, I would be happy to refer you to some photographers who are a little more old-fashioned than I am.

Q. Is unlimited coverage included in your packages or is there an extra fee for all day coverage? Are you willing to come extra early to get shots of us (the couple) before the ceremony if we choose to do that? Would there be a fee for this?

A. I offer a maximum of 10 hours coverage in the "Bragging Rights" package. Regardless of the package you choose, we can adjust where the time begins and where it ends, and if that means you'd like to begin my coverage an hour or two before your ceremony, that's great. I also love recommending a "First Look," or hiring me for a "Day-After Shoot" if you don't feel there will be enough time for portraits of the two of you between your ceremony and reception.

Q. Do your packages include one or two photographers and is there an extra fee for a second photographer?

A. It's my belief that when you hire JBe Photography, that's precisely what you should get. I don't like leaving the images for your wedding in anyone elses hands but mine. If you have a particularly large wedding, I may say that we need to have a 2nd photographer simply because of the size. If that's the case, based on my discretion I will choose a qualified professional photographer to accompany me. With that, the cost for a 2nd photographer will range from $500 to $1500 based on the hours of coverage needed. The reason it's so expensive is because I only work with other professional, experienced photographers, and I refuse to entrust your images to anyone less qualified than that.

Q. Do you work with an assistant?

A. I will bring an assistant to most weddings. They are non-shooting (primarily,) and will mostly be there to hold equipment, carry lighting and other tasks I need them for. :)

Q. How far will you travel to a wedding before charging a travel fee?

A. I do not charge a travel fee for any wedding within the Milwaukee area. I am absolutely available for travel to Chicago, Door County, Madison and beyond. In some instances depending on the location, I may require overnight accommodations and travel fees. Contact me for details!

Q. Do you charge a fee if the wedding and reception are in more than one location? What if we want to go to a third location for pictures? Is there a charge for this?

A. I do not charge for multiple locations. In fact, I encourage it! Sometimes the most fun part of the day is running around the city for pictures with the bridal party.

Q. Do you offer a website and CD of my images? If so, is this included in the packages or this is an extra fee?

A. I automatically include online, password protected proofing. Additionally, each wedding package includes your full resolution files!

Q. If your packages are not what I am looking for, would you be willing to try to customize a package for me that is within my budget?

A. Absolutely. Though I cannot guarantee I will be able to meet every budget, I will do my best to customize packages to match what you're looking for. And though you might find longer hours of coverage for less money with other companies, I have done a great deal of research and am confident that the prices I charge are fair and accurate, if not a bit underpriced, for the quality and attention I offer.

Q. Do you offer only traditional albums or do you have a wide variety of options to choose from including any coffee table style books?

A. I am proud to offer a variety of albums. Most packages include coffee table books, and several have the option to upgrade to a gorgeous heirloom flush mount album. You may also purchase albums and coffee table books a la carte no matter what package you have, and you also may order them, or duplicates for gifts, up to one year after your wedding.
